Topic 1: Evaluating R2P as an International Norm
Adopted by the United Nations in 2005, the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is an international norm that works to prevent mass atrocity crimes by encouraging international intervention in such situations. Despite being well-intentioned, past interventions in which R2P was invoked have resulted in conversations about the faults and weaknesses within this international norm - a norm which delegates will evaluate thoroughly within committee.
Topic 2: The Situation in Ukraine: Overcoming War and Conflict
The war in Ukraine has been at the forefront of international politics since Putin’s invasion into the country in February 2022. Delegates can expect to discuss the steps needed to deescalate the conflict and maintain peace along with the wars’ repercussions on both Ukraine and the wider international community.

In this committee, delegates will consider ways to improve the livelihoods and welfare of these refugees both now and moving forward.
