GA 4: Special Political and Decolonization

Topic 1: Evaluating R2P as an International Norm

Adopted by the United Nations in 2005, the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is an international norm that works to prevent mass atrocity crimes by encouraging international intervention in such situations. Despite being well-intentioned, past interventions in which R2P was invoked have resulted in conversations about the faults and weaknesses within this international norm - a norm which delegates will evaluate thoroughly within committee.

Topic 2: The Situation in Ukraine: Overcoming War and Conflict

The war in Ukraine has been at the forefront of international politics since Putin’s invasion into the country in February 2022. Delegates can expect to discuss the steps needed to deescalate the conflict and maintain peace along with the wars’ repercussions on both Ukraine and the wider international community.

Economic and Social Council

Topic 1: The Lebanese Financial Crisis

A country once known for its financial stability in the mid 1900’s now suffers from one of the worst financial crisis in modern history. Delegates will work together in order to come up with potential solutions to the financial state of Lebanon alongside improving the condition of the over seventy-percent of the Lebanese population that live below the poverty line.

Topic 2: Economic and Social Well-being of Venezuelan Refugees

Since 2013, Millions of Venezuelans have been forced to leave their country due to widespread economic collapse. Many of these refugees have sought solace in neighboring countries such as Colombia, Chile, or Peru, but now struggle with poor living conditions and lack of job security. In this committee, delegates will consider ways to improve the livelihoods and welfare of these refugees both now and moving forward.

Human Rights Council

Topic 1: Protecting the Rights of Religious Minorities

One of the most vital human rights is freedom of thought and belief. In order to uphold this right we need to initiate a conversation regarding the role of religious minorities in today's world and protect them from discrimination.

Topic 2: Protecting Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Developing Countries

While developed countries have increased the use of contraceptives and decreased the number of unwanted pregnancies, this is not the case for developing countries. We will discuss how to address this issue during our committee.

Sustainable Development Commission

Topic 1: Building and Transitioning to Renewable Energy

Worsening climate crisis and the continual use of more resources calls for the need to find alternative, more sustainable energy sources. Delegates come together to ensure the development of future generations.

Topic 2: Ensuring Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security

Ecosystems and agriculture are inextricably tied with mankind. As countries expand and develop further, it is our responsibility as delegates to consider the environmental impacts of the agriculture we develop and preserve the planet and those we share it with.
